Portsmouth Abbey School Sixth Former Emily "Max" Bogan, of Norman, OK, has been named a Semifinalist in the 2016 National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Max is among 16,000 academically talented high school seniors chosen from an initial group of 1.5 million high school juniors from more than 22,000 high schools across the USA who entered the prestigious competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
Max now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several requirements.
Congratulations, Max, and best of luck as you continue in the competition!
