Portsmouth Abbey School nominated five athletes for Providence Journal's 2017 All-State Fall Independent Team, and all five were named. The Abbey dominated the list of athletes, which included representation from St. George's and St. Andrew's.
Isabelle Fournier '19, Field Hockey
A three-sport star, Fournier played a major role in the Ravens capturing runner-up honors in the Eastern Independent League with an 11-2 record. An All-EIL selection, she scored 15 goals and had 13 assists. She led Portsmouth Abbey to its first berth in the New England Prep Class C tournament and earned All-New England Class C honors.
Margot Appleton '21,Cross Country
Appleton made an immediate impact in her first year running cross country as she captured the individual title at the Eastern Independent League Championships. She followed her EIL title with a third place finish at the New England Class C Championships. She broke the School 5K course record by 41 seconds.
Daniel Rodden '18, Cross Country
The Eastern Independent League individual champion, Rodden led the Ravens to a 10-0 regular season record and a third place team finish in the EIL Championships. He also was the fourth place finisher at the New England Division 3 Championships.
A three-year starter at cornerback, Donovan finished his career with his best season as he made 42 solo tackles and assisted on 26 others. He helped the Ravens earn a share of the Evergreen League regular season title and the school's first Bowl berth in nine years. He also earned both All-League and Class C All-New England honors.
The three-sport standout led the Ravens to their first Bowl bid in nine years as he rushed for 1,009 yards and scored 19 total touchdowns. His performance led the Ravens to a 7-1 regular season record and a share of the Evergreen League championship. He was named the Evergreen Conference Player of the Year.
