On Sunday, May 24th, the Portsmouth Abbey School Human Rights Club will be sponsoring a poetry performance featuring noted Pakistani poet Zainab Zahra Syed. Ms. Syed graduated from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in political science. She won the College Unions Poetry Slam at Brown University in 2012 and was nominated for "Best Poem" at the 2012 CUPSI in La Verne, California. She has worked as a poetry workshop facilitator at the women's prisons in Rhode Island and performed at poetry venues in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Pakistan and Australia. Most recently, she has performed in the "The Partitions Tour" throughout New England with fellow poet Paul Train. Her scholarship and poetry focuses on the Middle East and South Asia with specific attention paid to humanized politics. She is currently working in Peshawar with the families of the victims of the shootings last December.

The performance begins at 6:30pm and will be held in the Regan Lecture Hall in the Science Building on campus. Light refreshments will be available, and admission is free and open to the public.
