Portsmouth Abbey hosted the Odell Invitational, named after King Odell, the long-serving former T&F coach of Moses Brown School, on Saturday, May 9, and both the Abbey girls and boys shone in their respective meets, each taking home 2nd place overall team finishes and several first-place individual EIL league titles. Max Bogan '16 won the EIL title in the Javelin and broke Portsmouth Abbey's School record in the process.
The event consisted of EIL schools (Bancroft, Concord, Landmark, Pingree, Portsmouth Abbey, Winsor) and SENE schools (Hyde, Marianapolis, Moses Brown, Providence Country Day, Wheeler, St. Thomas More), and while it is scored among all schools competing, it is also broken down afterwards to score EIL and SENE league champions. This was the first year that the EIL was crowning league champions in T&F.
In the Odell competition, the top three teams in the girls' meet were Winsor School (139), Portsmouth Abbey (91), and Moses Brown (88). The top three teams in the boys' meet were Moses Brown (128), Landmark School (119), and Portsmouth Abbey (55).
For the EIL League Championships, the top three teams in the girls' meet were Winsor School (164), Portsmouth Abbey (135), and Pingree (83). In the boys' meet, the standings were Landmark (222), Portsmouth Abbey (138), and Pingree (69).
Winning outright Odell first places for Portsmouth Abbey in the girls' meet were Amanda Saliba '17 in the Pole Vault, Sophia Diodati '15 in the Discus, and Max Bogan in the Javelin. Bogan's throw of 100-7 broke the School record of 98-11, set by Third Former Suzi Willis in 2002.
Within the EIL portion of the meet, Saliba, Diodati and Bogan were joined as EIL champions by Sara Bertuccio '16 in the 100-meter Hurdles, Courtni Wade '15 in the Triple Jump, and by the 1600 Relay team of Diodati, Jillian McRoy '18, Wade, and Keri Heuer '15. The team's time of 4:24.53 took nearly 15 seconds off their previous best, and is the 6th-fastest time in School history.
Winning individual EIL titles in the boys' meet were Jeremy Slupski '15 in the Pole Vault, Kai Smith '15 in the Long Jump, and the 400 Relay team of Adam Suh '18, Scott Powell '17, Smith, and Patrick Carlson '15.
Congratulations, Ravens!
