Meghan McCarthy '15, receiving the Vittoria "Izzy" Marley Award at the Pippy O'Connor Independent Schools Girls' Golf Tournament
Abbey Girls' Varsity Golf Captain Meghan McCarthy '15 was awarded the Vittoria Isabelle "Izzy" Marley Award at the Pippy O'Connor Independent School Girls' Golf Tournament, held May 11 at Agawam Hunt, in Rumsford, RI.
This award is given annually at the Pippy O'Connor Tournament in memory of Izzy Marley, who died on September 3, 2010, shortly before the beginning of her senior year at Deerfield Academy. A championship golfer both at Deerfield and at home in Jamaica, Izzy loved to compete. The award is given to a student who shows dedication to academics, sports, and volunteering, and devotion to family, school and team. The recipient possesses qualities of honesty and compassion and is a person of character who, in the words of Izzy's mother, believes "first, do no harm."
Coaches from each of the 25 competing schools nominate one senior from their respective teams who they feel best embodies the characteristics of Izzy Marley. Meghan has demonstrated a love for the game and has improved each of her four years on Portsmouth Abbey's Varsity Golf Team. She is a leader both on the course and in the classroom and will attend Brown University in the fall.
Congratulations, Meghan!
