Rising Sixth Former Rory O'Connor spent one month in Ecuador this summer. His account of the experience follows:
From June 9 to July 9, I taught English at Santay Island, located on the River Guayas in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Santay Island is a world nature preserve and is home to many indigenous fauna and flora of Ecuador, including crocodiles. It is a poor area that is mainly fueled by tourism. I taught English to the adults and children of the island so that they will be able to communicate with English-speaking tourists and show them around the island. It was a wonderful experience for me and for the students, and I am very glad I had the opportunity to teach them this summer.
